TOURISTS BEWARE:
This is NOT the place you want to visit as a non-Japanese tourist to get a taste of authentic Kobe Beef. You will guaranteed receive poorer service compared to Japanese citizens.
As you enter, there are numerous grill stations and tables. There was one other western family eating at the restaurant prior to our arrival. The staff told us that they had to group us together and share a single grill because there was only one chef working at this hour (3pm ish). Not a problem, but about 5 minutes later a Japanese office worker walks into the restaurant and another chef immediately comes out from the back and opens a new grill/table. Sharing a table is not a problem but why bother lying to your foreigner customers when you're so blatantly going to get caught anyways. This is the kind of poor attitude you can expect to receive as a foreigner.
But more importantly, the food. It was mediocre but incredibly overpriced. I'm very well aware the cost of authentic, quality Kobe beef but this restaurant did not meet that expectation in the slightest. Between two people we ordered and shared the 'Kobe Beef Steak Combination Set' for ¥38,500 - some of the meat unfortunately was very chewy and rather tough. This indicates that the meat was not good quality or the chef didn't cook it properly. We kindly pointed this out to the chef but he just gave us an annoyed expression and kind of shrugged. This was no surprise as between the staff and chef, the atmosphere felt very tense and unwelcoming. It clearly felt between us and the other western family that they are bothered by your presence and just wants you to quickly eat your food, pay your bill and get out.
So TDLR: TOURIST TRAP, extremely overpriced food, and terrible service and attitude to foreigners
Go to a Kobe Beef restaurant that's more deserving of your money and time.
