I was dining alone around 5pm in August.
I wanted to eat Kobe beef, but I wasn't particularly hungry yet.
My selfish wish to eat just a little bit of delicious meat was fulfilled at this restaurant, Kisshokichi.
It was a scorching hot day, so I started by quenching my thirst with a highball and ordered a set of Kobe beef steak and sautéed salmon. The waitress at the dining area gave me detailed instructions on how to eat it deliciously.
First, I chewed the meat alone, savoring the umami of the Kobe beef itself. Delicious...
It was also delicious with a light sprinkling of salt.
The wasabi soy sauce was, of course, delicious.
It was also delicious with slices of pickled garlic on top.
The meal came with rice, salad, and soup, and the salad had a refreshing, summery citrus dressing that really resetted my palate. The soup was also full of the umami of Kobe beef, and the tender meat at the bottom was a delight.
But what surprised me was the salmon, which I had always thought of as a side dish.
The salmon, lightly grilled with crispy skin, combined with the chef's original sauce, which has just the right amount of bitter capers, elevated the flavor to an outstanding level.
This salmon would be excellent as a stand-alone dish, but it was such a blessing to be able to enjoy it as a side dish. Both the taste and the service were absolutely excellent, making it a truly wonderful experience.
