We were really looking forward to trying Kobe beef and stopped at this restaurant after searching for quite a while. My aunt and I (both Southeast Asian) were looking at the menu outside when a waiter came out and asked if we were planning to come in. I explained that we didn’t have a reservation, to which he replied that it was no problem. However, right after that he looked us up and down and said, in a very arrogant tone: “But this restaurant is expensive, eh.”
I found this extremely disrespectful. We were just about to go inside, but after that remark we completely lost the appetite to dine there. A restaurant should never make assumptions about guests based on how they look. Hospitality means making people feel welcome, and unfortunately this experience did the exact opposite.
