We went to Genkichi expecting a proper Kobe beef experience, but it ended up being one of the most disappointing meals of our trip.
The biggest issue was the beef itself. For something marketed as premium Kobe beef, the quality was shockingly poor — it was noticeably chewy, lacking the tenderness and melt-in-your-mouth texture you’d expect. The flavor was also underwhelming and didn’t have the richness or depth that justifies the high price tag. It honestly didn’t feel like a top-grade cut at all.
Given how expensive the meal was, the value just wasn’t there. We paid 60,000yen+ for two pax and that’s at least 5x more than what you could get at other spots with higher quality cuts.
It’s a complete tourist trap and a huge scam to charge this price for few cubes of beef. I agree with the negative reviews and I’m not sure how they got such high reviews - I believe they’re fake or they come from people who have no idea how Kobe beef should taste like.
They’d try to make you feel welcomed by talking to you and making you take pictures of their beef and chef but honestly it was very cringy and they were just trying too hard.
Please take your money elsewhere and don’t come here 😭
