We visited Kobe Beef GENKICHI at the end of April 2026 and it was one of the highlights of our Japan trip.
Kenji, the owner and head chef, was absolutely fantastic, not only incredibly skilled but also very welcoming and engaging. His team, including the assistant chef, were equally attentive and professional.
There was a bit of a classic teppanyaki “show,” but it was done tastefully and not over the top, which we really appreciated.
The food itself was outstanding. The Wagyu literally melted in the mouth, easily some of the best beef we’ve ever had. We tried three different cuts of Wagyu (around 360g total), and each one had its own unique flavour and texture. Everything was cooked perfectly.
In total, we had three lunch sets and spent around ¥60,000. It’s definitely on the expensive side, especially considering how affordable food in Japan usually is, but for us it was a special treat during our trip and 100% worth it.
Also, a fun note, Kenji kind of looks like Saitama from One Punch Man, which made the whole experience even more memorable. :)
We would absolutely come back next time we’re in Kobe. Highly recommended!
