Through and through a TOURIST TRAP!
We went there because of the good Google reviews but when we got there around 2pm on a weekday, they told us the teppanyaki floor was full. Without much discussion they led us to a nearby restaurant which they claimed to be under the same chain. We got to the new restaurant and were asked to order drinks first. Somehow we felt something fishy so I asked for the food menu before ordering drinks. As they handed us the menu (photo 2&3) we got shocked how the prices were x3- x4 times more compared to advertising board (photo 1) outside Miyabi! We insisted going back to Miyabi but they wouldn’t let us go, saying they are full both 1st and 2nd floors.
We insisted to return to Miyabi anyway and by the time we reached Miyabi they said 2nd floor was vacant coz “all the customers left now”.
After we sat down, it was the same expensive menu we saw at the 2nd restaurant. At that moment we just wanted to order the 2 least expensive cuts (7700 yen for 220g & 8550 yen for 165g)and be done away with it. This was when it became obvious as the chef became pushy, saying these least expensive cuts were “tough” “chewy” and please order “better” ones..
*Honestly why would you put something SUB-STANDARD in your menu anyway ?!*
He even told us to order the “premium cuts/ prices” but go for 110g instead…
After 15min trying to convince us without success, he got quite annoyed and gave in.
Our food bill alone came to 27280yen for 3 lunch sets (+rice and salad) excluding drinks. The “Kobe” beef was mostly TOUGH (just as he said!) way worse than just normal wagyu beef we’ve had! I had to swallow some of the pieces coz you couldn’t chew it. Yep of course the chef started packing up our plates while my daughter was still finishing her food.
This scam left me scarred about Kobe and Kobe beef but I was still glad we didn’t unexpectedly get talked into spending over 100,000yen for a 40 min lunch.
What a shame it was our first time in this city, while we had a wonderful time at the herb garden and cable car earlier. Really sad this took place.
Later I read other one-star reviews, which I totally regretted not doing so before, they use this tactic a lot.
If you pick this restaurant please ask for the real menu and decide for yourself before walking in.
Keep in mind “the red meat”and “‘tender’ red meat” is substandard.
